First Date Night With Hayli

Last Friday night Derek and I (and Hayli of course- I'm not quite ready to leave her yet) finally got out on our first date night since Hayli was born.  I was a little nervous because we got a late start, leaving the house around 8pm.  At this time, she was still getting a little fussy at night since her medication hadn't totally kicked in, but she did great and it was so fun to take her out and show her off to all the random people.  We doubled with our good friends Cameron and Paige and had a great night!  I just love the little things like telling the hostess we need enough room for a baby!!  It's so fun being a mom!  :)  Here are some pics from that night!

She looks like she is wondering why we are just standing there smiling. haha

She was doing good sitting in her car seat for a little while but then she got a little fussy while we were waiting for the food to get there.

I had to hold her through my whole dinner! haha.  But she is definitely worth it.  I guess this is how it goes now.   :)

First Month!

It's so sad that a month has passed.  It seems as if Hayli has been with us forever and like she was just born yesterday at the same time. :(  She is growing up too fast already!  Everyday she is doing something new and incredible that you just can't help but watch her all day long!  Hayli has really been an amazing baby.  Right away she was sleeping through the night and feeding so well!  She hardly ever cries, (only when she is super tired or cold) and when she does cry it is the saddest, most adorable little cry in the world that you can't get even the smallest bit frustrated.  (Plus it often takes me back to hearing it for the first time and how amazing that was.) She is already starting to smile and she is trying so hard to talk, every once in while getting the cutest little "coo" out that I have ever heard!  At her last doctors visit she weighed 7lbs 14oz. -26th percentile.  (Still tiny but gaining a good amount of weight!)  For a little while we were having a problem with some bad acid reflux that she was having every night.  It got pretty concerning because it was causing her to stop breathing, but the doctor quickly got her on some medication and it seems to be helping a lot!  Right now she loves sleeping, baths, the sound of the shower, white noise, sticking out her tongue, being swaddled, dad's folk rock music, primary songs, cuddling in bed with mom and dad in the morning, her binky, laying on her changing table, and being outside.  She is not a fan of her swing, being made to wake up, Jack Bauer, and being cold.
Her first month has also been full of some pretty big events.  She has had her first "girls night out" on a shopping trip with her mama and Auntie Bree, moms first Mothers Day, her first big sleepover with mom at grandma's house while dad went on a overnight biking trip, a day at work with mom, 3 trips to the doctor, and date night with mom and dad to Olive Garden.
It has been such an amazing first month with this precious little girl!   I cant believe how lucky I am to get to spend all day everyday with her, I cherish every moment!
Happy One Month Baby Girl!

This little girl loves to makes the funniest faces!  Here are some of her finest! haha :)

She loves to sleep just like her mama!
She's a binky baby for sure!  :)

Trying so hard to talk!

Our Hayli Marie

Well I'm finally doing the blog thing!  I have been meaning to get something up for a while now, but the little time I have each day to sit down and figure out how to work a blog was never enough for me to actually get it done till now!  So here we go.....

She's here!!
Life couldn't get any better then it is right now with her!  And this is where is all began, her birth story:
My due date was April 12th, and for some reason I always knew she was going to be late.  My cervix had been closed tight week after week at every appointment so my doctor scheduled my delivery with the hospital for the 18th (a week after my due date).  I tried everything (walking, sprinting, jumping jacks, I was even teaching dance 3 times a week up until the last week of my pregnancy) to throw myself into labor, but my due date came and went without ANY signs of labor.  But it wasn't that bad, I was never really uncomfortable, and I was prepared  mentally to be overdue.  Derek and I were just getting so anxious to see her!  The day before the 18th I had a doctors appointment and my doctor told me that because my cervix was so closed they would first have to give me a medicine call Cytotec to help me dilate to a 2 or a 3 before they could give me the Pitocin to actually induce the labor. She was hoping that this way I would have the baby by 5:00pm.

Wednesday morning we are over to the hospital by 6:45am and they started the Cytotec at 8am.  They told me that I was already having small contractions before I got there but about 30 min after they started the Cytotec I began feeling real contractions.  I was definitely not expecting them to come on so strong and so fast, and by 10am I was already having 3 or 4 within 1 min.  I held off the epidural until they were making me feel like I was going to vomit because of the pain and how close together they were.  By 3pm I was to a 3 and we thought we were going to be there all night at the rate it was going.  My doctor came in and broke my water around 3:30pm but told me they couldn't start the Pitocin because my contractions were way stronger then they were supposed to be and too close together.  At 4:30pm she came in to check me again hoping that maybe I would be to a 5 and I was at a 10!!  She told me that it was time to push and I started freaking out because I was definitely not expecting to start pushing right then!  I had to wear an oxygen mask the whole time because the babies heart rate kept dropping because of how strong and close together my contractions were.  At 4:45pm I started pushing and (incredibly just as my doctor predicted)....
15 min and 12 pushes later Hayli Marie Coulam made her incredible debut at 5:01pm on April 18, 2012!!!

6lbs 11oz.  -19.5in.

Lots of tears of joy over this little one!  Nothing can describe the feeling.  It was the most amazing moment of my life, I would relive it everyday if a could.

What a proud papa!

And so we begin this amazing time of our lives!  :)
